MOVING TIPS AND TRICKS

Moving to a new house is a hectic task. However, there are proven effective ways that you can follow to make moving easier, smoother, and less disastrous.

Take time to read these tips and tricks that we have listed and prepare for a quicker and more convenient move without making any room for mistakes and pitfalls.

1

Create a moving checklist.

Sorting and packing up your stuff takes time. That is why you should start planning and preparing at least a month before the moving day. Create a checklist by breaking down the job into smaller tasks with a corresponding deadline for each item and plan to complete a few tasks each day as you prepare for the move. Advance planning will make the moving day go by less stressful and efficient.

2

Allot Budget.

Allocate a budget for the equipment that you’ll be using to pack your stuff. Make Sure to purchase boxes, box cutters, markers, packing tape, paper towels, and garbage bags ahead of time for smoother packing.

For larger moving equipment, consider renting moving tools such as furniture pads or covers, and tie-down straps or rope from a moving company.

3

Declutter. Declutter. Declutter.

Before you decide to pack up all your belongings, take a long hard look at your closets and other stuff to see what you can purge. Just pack what you need and want in your new place. Get rid of the items you no longer use. You can either sell or donate them.

Purging unnecessary and unused items will leave you with less to pack, lesstomove, and less to unpack in your new house.

4

Pack in advance.

Even if you’re not sure of the final destination, you’ll know about a mover weeks or even months early. You can start packing off-season items and other stuff you rarely use

5

Make your boxes full but not too heavy.

Whether you’re embarking on a DIY move or hiring movers, it is important to keep boxes full and still manageable to carry.

Heavy items like books should be packed inside small boxes to make them more manageable to carry. Light items should be packed inside large boxes to keep them from getting overloaded. Fill empty spaces with blankets and pillows to avoid potential breakage without adding extra weight.

6

Take photos when disassembling furniture and appliances.

Before you disassemble your furniture and electronic set-ups, make sure to take a photo so you remember what goes where.

7

Label your boxes specifically.

You can also assign specific labels and colors to each box for you to identify what’s inside and where each box goes when you move.

8

Book in advance.

If you’re planning to hire moving services or renting supplies, book in advance and ensure that you’ll be able to get a truck or movers when moving day arrives. Also, schedule your move at an earlier time of the day to make sure that the crew is not tired yet.

9

Bring your essentials with you.

Make sure that all your essentials—a change of clothes, toothbrush, medications, paperwork, money, etc.— are kept in a suitcase or bag that you’ll keep with you. In case the moving truck gets lost, at least you’ll have some essentials with you.
